Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong has emphasized the need for enhanced business and investment cooperation between Singapore and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), focusing on the potential for companies and investors from both nations to strengthen their ties. This call for increased collaboration came during Wong’s recent meetings with UAE business leaders in Abu Dhabi on October 20.

In discussions with Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Wong explored areas of mutual interest, emphasizing the UAE’s expertise in sectors such as energy—spanning oil, gas, renewable energy, and nuclear power. Additionally, the leaders discussed the UAE’s expanding investments in artificial intelligence and defense technology, identifying these as key areas for partnership and growth between the two countries.

Wong noted that these industries offer significant opportunities for Singapore and the UAE to leverage their strengths, establish new partnerships, and delve into emerging markets. The existing economic relationship between the two nations remains robust, with bilateral trade in goods reaching $27.9 billion in 2025 and trade in services amounting to $12.8 billion in 2024, positioning the UAE as Singapore’s largest trading partner in the Middle East.

Beyond trade, Singapore and the UAE have been actively fostering economic cooperation through various bilateral business forums and investment initiatives. The recent discussions underscore a shared commitment to expanding commercial links and identifying new opportunities in the face of evolving global economic conditions.
