Palace Anticipates Fairness in Duterte’s Impeachment Trial

by admin477351

Hoping for a fair and just process, Malacañang expressed its stance on the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte, amid concerns about recent shifts in the Senate’s leadership. Palace Press Officer Claire Castro addressed the issue on Tuesday, emphasizing the importance of impartiality as the case progresses to the Senate.

Castro made it clear that the impeachment proceedings are now a matter for the Senate to handle, underlining that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will refrain from influencing the outcome. “The responsibility now lies with the Senate, and we trust that our senators will act as fair judges,” she stated during a press conference, highlighting the trial’s significance for the public.

The House of Representatives has already taken its stance, and the ball is now in the Senate’s court, as per Castro’s remarks. She reiterated that the impeachment process does not fall within the President’s mandate, thereby underscoring the separation of powers and roles in the government.

The Palace’s comments come at a time of heightened public scrutiny over political dynamics in the Senate. As the situation unfolds, the focus remains on ensuring a transparent and equitable trial for the Vice President, reflecting the administration’s commitment to due process and the rule of law.
