Việt Nam and Singapore are set to enhance their political trust and strategic coordination as they strengthen collaboration in technology, innovation, and sustainable development. This development comes as Vietnamese leader Tô Lâm prepares for a state visit to Singapore from May 29 to 31, signaling a shift in their bilateral relationship towards future-oriented sectors that support long-term growth and regional integration within ASEAN, according to Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyễn Mạnh Cường.

The partnership between the two nations was elevated to a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2025, highlighting the increasing political trust and shared strategic interests. Singapore remains a crucial economic partner for Việt Nam, being its second-largest foreign investor with numerous projects across various sectors such as manufacturing, infrastructure, logistics, finance, real estate, and high technology. A key symbol of their cooperation is the Việt Nam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) network, which is now transitioning towards greener and smarter industrial models aligned with sustainable development goals.

Both countries are also focusing on enhancing cooperation in areas like artificial intelligence, semiconductor technology, big data, clean energy, digital transformation, and green transition initiatives. Efforts are being made to link innovation ecosystems, technology enterprises, and skilled talent networks in both nations. Economic cooperation is expected to be a central theme during Tô Lâm’s visit, with discussions likely to cover deeper collaboration in finance, trade, supply chains, and technology development.

Initiatives such as “Tech Connect” aim to foster stronger connections between governments, universities, research institutes, and private companies, particularly in fields like artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and green technology. This visit is anticipated to support the next generation of sustainable and high-tech VSIP projects across Việt Nam, further solidifying the collaborative efforts between the two countries.

During his trip, Tô Lâm is scheduled to deliver a keynote address at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, one of the region’s leading security forums. Vietnamese officials view this invitation as recognition of Việt Nam’s growing international role and its commitment to peace, cooperation, and strategic autonomy.
