Zaqy Mohamad has taken on the role of Acting Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs in Singapore, committing to further engage with the country’s Muslim community and address its needs. This appointment follows the resignation of Faishal Ibrahim, who left his political positions and the People’s Action Party on July 20 due to what Prime Minister Lawrence Wong described as a lapse in judgment concerning his interactions with a female member of the public.

In his new role, Zaqy expressed intentions to collaborate with the M3+ network, as well as volunteers and community partners, to bolster programs that support and advance Singapore’s Malay-Muslim community. He emphasized the importance of continuing to build on the progress already achieved, assuring that the community will continue to receive dedicated support.

Reflecting on Faishal Ibrahim’s departure, Zaqy shared his sadness, having worked alongside Faishal for nearly two decades. The resignation has also drawn responses from several Malay-Muslim lawmakers and community leaders, who voiced their disappointment over the circumstances but acknowledged Faishal’s contributions during his tenure.
