New Partnerships and Awards Boost AI for Singapore’s SMEs

by admin477351

Singapore is making significant strides to help small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) embrace artificial intelligence (AI), with a focus on practical application through new alliances, educational programs, cybersecurity measures, and industry accolades. Senior Minister of State for Digital Development and Information, Tan Kiat How, emphasized the importance of businesses prioritizing effective AI implementation over merely keeping up with industry trends during his address at Asia Tech x Singapore.

The government has announced an expansion of its initiatives under the Digital Enterprise Blueprint (DEB), a strategic framework aimed at fostering digital transformation and AI integration among SMEs. Since its inception, over 26,000 SMEs have reaped the benefits of the DEB, marked by a dramatic increase in AI adoption, which surged from 4.3 percent in 2023 to 53.5 percent by 2025.

Key partnerships have been forged with Grab and RSM Stone Forest IT to further this cause. Grab’s initiative is set to assist 10,000 SMEs across the food, retail, and e-commerce sectors by offering free online training, webinars, and AI courses in collaboration with the Singapore University of Technology and Design. Meanwhile, RSM Stone Forest IT is introducing a cybersecurity program to boost the cyber resilience of 2,000 SMEs through phishing simulation exercises aimed at identifying and addressing security vulnerabilities.

Additionally, the government has launched the “AI for Enterprise Impact Playbook,” a collaborative effort by the Infocomm Media Development Authority, SkillsFuture Singapore, and Workforce Singapore. This playbook serves as a guide for businesses to pinpoint appropriate AI solutions and explore workforce training opportunities. The playbook is part of a broader effort to enhance the practical application of AI in various business operations.

In a bid to recognize and celebrate successful AI integration, Singapore will inaugurate the SME AI Impact Awards in 2026. These awards are designed to honor Singapore-registered SMEs that have effectively utilized AI technologies for at least six months, showcasing measurable improvements in operations or workforce efficiency. This initiative underscores Singapore’s commitment to advancing AI adoption and rewarding innovation within the SME sector.
